Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the most searched smartphone going around. It is like the scaled up version of the Huawei P20 Pro which had some interesting features including amazing Night Mode. So, I can understand why Huawei Mate 20 Pro is attracting so many eyeballs. Here today, we will be reviewing Huawei Mate 20 pro which the company dubs as higher intelligence. So, without further ado let’s get started with our review of Huawei Mate 20 Pro and see if it really is the best flagship our right now.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro: Design
Huawei really leveled up their design game with this phone. I think the hardware is on point. Its design is kind of closer to Samsung more than anything with the shape of the phone and the glass on both sides curving over the sides. It’s a little slippery without a case on it and that the only little drawback, I could think of with the design of this phone.
The Power button is red colored which is different from the rest of the phone and then the triple cameras plus the flash on the back kind of look like bug eyes but I think in the middle it looks fine. And since the power and volume buttons are all on one side, the left side is totally smooth and blank.
Overall, it just feels in the hands like a Galaxy S9 had a baby with an iPhone, meaning you get mostly Samsung design features and then that iPhone type notch but with some very minor bezels and chin.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro: Display
This 6.3-inch curved OLED display at 2K resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio is gorgeous. Viewing angles are great, Brightness is more than enough for use in direct sunlight. And those of you that aren’t fans of the notch will find the options and software to not just hide it but Huawei was also smart enough to fit notification icons in the hidden portion. So no worries, you are not losing any screen real estate.
The notch also serves a purpose, like Apple’s Face ID, Huawei’s facial recognition is just this advanced. This means a full dot projector, flood illuminator IR camera, Proximity sensor, and a 24-megapixel camera that also serves for selfies.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro : Performance
The software is blazing fast and I love that just like in iOS, you can set notifications to only show content when your face is detected. Inside the May 20 Pro is literally the most advanced Android phone you can buy today. You’ll notice this is one of the few phones that’s not rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon Soc. It is actually powered by Kirin 980 Soc with the world’s first 7-nanometer processor. Huawei Mate 20 Pro also has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and it’s pretty smooth for the most part, I’d say on par with any Samsung phone like an S9. It handles multitasking, opening and closing apps, etc without a problem.
Where the Kirin 980 Chip really shines, however, is definitely battery life. The best part of this mate 20 Pro is not the camera, It is the battery. It has got a massive 4200 mAh battery even though the phone is not that thick. Mate 20 Pro’s power management is pretty aggressive about trying to save power. It’s changing the resolution of the screen and killing apps in the background when you’re not using it much. The result has been by far the best battery life in any phone I’ve used.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro: Additional Specs
It comes with one of the fastest chargers in the box, rated for 40 watts that can charge Mate 20 Pro from 0 to 70% in half an hour. It supports wireless charging that’s also reverse charging i.e if you want to charge somebody else’s phone provided the other phone also supports wireless charging. Mate 20 Pro is IP 68 rated for water and dust resistance, dual sim capabilities and I’m gonna run out of space writing all the features included here. It even has an IR blaster which only a handful of few phones have got.
Since we are talking specs, Let’s talk about the cameras. Huawei dubs this it’s thinking lens tuned by Leica as a hint to AI. But what really impressed me is how it even managed to beat Huawei’s P20 Pro in its own game. We are talking about a whopping 40-megapixel primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, an 8 megapixels telephoto lens with
The Camera app has a lot of options, you have a portrait mode, the night mode, aperture mode and yes they do have a Pro mode which allows you to customize all different things like ISO, aperture etc.
To conclude, let’s go back to that initial premise. Is this phone really the Beast that makes all competition look bad, In my book it is. This phone is miles ahead in so many things like the camera, the 3D sensing face unlock for Android, the new architecture for the processor on Android, the fit and finish, and essentials like Speed in the software and also battery life.
It may not be perfect but this is as advanced as a phone gets and most of what it can do it does without the need to recur to gimmicks. I seriously just have to admit, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is probably the best phone of 2018 and definitely one of my favorites.
